Houston and SouthEast Asia

Hey there everybody! How is everyone today? Its me the 7YearOldHippie. I hope everyone's week has been amazing. I have been hanging out with friends and going to music shows. I have also been watching the news and keeping up with current events going on in Houston.

I want to wish my best for the cities and people affected by Hurricane Harvey.  I have friends in the Houston area so I have been praying for everyone's well being. I have also been hearing that there is currently wide spread devastation in Southeast Asia due to flooding and heavy rainfall. I would like to offer my prayers for them as well. Their situation is not on the news as much but it does not make it less important. I hope everyone is able to surpass their current situation and be okay again.

I would also like to ask everyone to find ways to help the people in these situations. One thing I would recommend is to donate money or supplies to charitable organizations. Many towns have local drives currently going on. It doesn't have to be a big donation every little bit helps. Also if you find yourself able to donate time please do so it is invaluable.

Thoughts on the SNES

Hey there everybody! How is everyone today? Its me the 7YearOldHippie. I hope everyone's weekend was amazing Mine was awesome I spent all of Saturday relaxing at a lake at an elevation of 13000ft. It was a nice time and I took a good nap. Today I would like to discuss the freaking SNES MINI.

First of all what the Hell? I thought Nintendo stopped the production of the NES mini so they could produce more SNES minis. Now it looks like that was a lie because we sold out like in a literal minute. I understand tons of people want these guys but I feel like Nintendo kind of dropped the ball by not making more. Now I guess I'll have to wait to buy it from scalpers on Ebay who will sell it to me for $300. I know its not that big a problem but I guess its just slightly disheartening.

Solar Eclipses and Thoughts

Hey there everybody! How is everyone today? Its me the 7YearOldHippie. How was everybody's weekend. Mine was fantastic went on a pretty good hike and went to the Crystal Mill at Crystal City by Marble Colorado. It was an especially nice hike cause it was my birthday so it was pretty relaxing. I also saw the Solar Eclipse today and it was awesome.  I used one of the UV filter screens so I could protect my eyes. I hope everyone was able to safely view the eclipse using screens or protective lenses. There is no need to hurt our eyes when we have readily available technology to help us.
 `
While the Eclipse was amazing (as all natural events are) that is not the thing I want to talk about today. I would like to mention something that occurred to me last week. I own one of those fake robotic Persian cats. The ones that look slightly realistic and are fluffy.

Anyway, I like to keep this toy perched by a window at my house. I do this because I like how he looks when you see him from the outside. I've noticed something strange however, other real cats come to my house and like to meow at the window. I think they're trying to get the attention of my cat. The problem is my cat isn't real so it can't play or notice them. I've been wondering if that makes the other cats feel bad like they were snubbed. I hope not. Then I began to wonder about us as humans and how often we get despondent when someone slights us. I wonder how many of those times actually had nothing to do with us, but we chose to take it personally. I guess what I am trying to get at is we should not take things so personally. Many of the things that happen to us have nothing to do with us. And our relationships have as much to do with other peoples personal baggage as much as it has to do with ours. This just my personal thoughts, on the matter I know I have no experience with relationships and I am the last person in the world qualified to give relationship advice.

Longboarding in the mountains

Hey there everybody! How is everyone today? Its me the 7YearOldHippie. How was everybody's weekend. Mine was fantastic went on a pretty good hike and climbed a fourteen-er (also known as Conundrum Peak), However that is not what I am her to talk to you about today. I am here to discuss the subject of longboarding.

I went longboarding today and it was a ton of fun. I used to skateboard a lot as a kid and I am trying to get back into the board sports. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it exhilarating. It was not too hard to get into but I used to skateboard when I was smaller so that probably helped out. Honestly I would recommend everyone give it a go its a fun way to get around. Longboards are not that expensive as mine only ran me about $100. I know it can be hard to get into new activities as we get older but we should not let that stop us. Life is about motion and trying new things even if they are scary.

Hiking in Basalt Colorado

Hi there Everybody! How is everyone today? Sorry about the late post as I am still adjusting to being back. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was fantastic I went hiking in Basalt Colorado.

The trail I went on is called the Arbaney Kittle trail. It is a a 17.5 mile one way hike. I would rate this trail a 4/5 as it was  a good one. I went hiking on this trail with a friend of mine and we were on it for a good 2.5 hours. Obviously we didn't complete the entirety of trail instead we went to the halfway point and then came back. So we technically made this trail into an out and back trail.

Me and My friend embarked on this trail at about 10:00AM. It was early in the summer and a fun excursion. I didn't see a lot of people which was kind of weird as it is a popular trail but maybe it was an off day. The trail is dog friendly so great for out four legged friends.  For the majority of the hike you will be hiking through a mixed forest of pine, spruce, and aspen. There are also large expanses of aspen trees that are beautiful.

Back from Vacation Hiatus

Hey there everybody! Sorry I've been gone for about two weeks. I was on vacation in California and I kind of took a break from the internet. I was at Huntington Beach for the majority of my trip but I did go towards Newport Beach and Catalina Island. I had a blast while I was there. I tried surfing a couple days....I was not great at it I was able to goof around on it but I would definitely not call myself a surfer. Hanging out by the beach was tons of fun as well as hanging eating out at the local restaurants and buying things at the local farmer's markets. All in all I had a blast but I am glad to be home in the mountains of Colorado again. One of the great things about vacations is that while they are fun and enjoyable its always great when you get home and are surrounded by friendly known faces.

I am glad to be back home and I am feeling refreshed, I look forward to sharing many new stories with you as well as new takes I have on life. Super Mario Run!

Hi there everybody and Happy Monday! It's me the 7 Year Old Hippie. I hope everybody's weekend was enjoyable. Mine was fantastic.  I went for a nice hike with some friends and I had a nice relaxing easy day on Sunday. Today I am here to talk about a new app I discovered yesterday called Super Mario Run! I know its been out for a while but its new to me. So don't nag me about it!

This app is available on the ITunes for a free initial download. This initial download works as a free trial period for a couple of levels and then it gives you the option of purchasing the full game for $9.99. I know that sounds like a lot for an app purchase but I feel like it is worth it as it delivers a fun full length game. I also like how the entirety of the game is given to you for $9.99 without any need to buy additional DLC material. Its nice to see Nintendo not getting into the DLC era of gaming at least not yet. The game can easily be divided into two game-play ideas. the first is regular game-play in which you run around the level collecting coins and trying to reach Bowser's castle. The second part of the game is where you complete against other players in order to collect the most coins so that different colored toads will move into the destroyed Mushroom Kingdom. This is helpful because by collecting the different toads you can unlock other characters besides Mario, like different colored Yoshis, Princess Peach, and Luigi. Overall this is a fun game to play and I feel like it is a Great value for the price it is offered to at. I would recommend this app/game to others.

Friday Hike

Hi there Everybody! How is everyone today? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was fantastic I went hiking in Aspen Colorado

The trail I chose was the Hunter Valley trail it starts off in town and it is a seven miles out and back trail. I hiked with some friends and we really enjoyed the hike. The trail is dog and horse friendly. There were not a lot of other people on the trail but there were some others. The day was very warm and sunny which was nice cause yesterday was pretty cloudy. The trail goes through fields, aspens, and pine. It is also a good place to see some wildlife provided your there during the dusk or dawn hours. All in all this was a very fun trip and if you happen to be in the are I would recommend you give it a looksy. I have included some photographs so you guys can see what the hike and the area looked like. And remember if you go out hiking make sure to get some sunscreen so you don't get burned.

Happy 4th of July!!!!

Hello there everybody!!! I hope everyone's weekend was wonderful. I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July as well. Happy Birthday America!!!

I hope everyone enjoys the parades and fireworks celebrations. Remember to eat some great food and have some good drinks. Personally I love the taste of a good burger and a cold beer but that is just my opinion. Make sure to be safe if you plan on drinking. On second thought though...being safe is good advice regardless of what you're planning on pursuing.

One more note on the Fireworks celebrations. Many States this day have fire-bans due to the dry warm weather. I ask that all of you please respect this ban and try to be as safe and responsible as possible. This world is beautiful and an accidental fire would make no-one happy.

Friday's Music Pick

Hiya there everybody! I hope everyone's week was fantastic. Mine went excellent I got some new tires for my car and everything is back to normal. For today's blog post I would like to recommend a song pick for you guys and gals. The song is called Waving Through A Window From Dear Evan Hansen by Owl City.

This song is wonderful. I may be biased as I love Owl City's airy fairy style of music, however I still feel that this song is a special gem. I feel it is even better than one of his earlier hits "Fireflies". It's bouncy music is an excellent followup to his earlier style of work. Not that I have a problem with his newer work but it is nice to see a flashback to the bouncier tones.

The lyrics are highly enjoyable as well. They talk about how it can be easy for many people to get stuck on the sidelines of life. People are born into this world hoping to fit in and be popular but life doesn't work that way for everyone. Many people can feel like they are watching other people from afar. This really speaks to me as I was one of those kids who was always on the sidelines wondering if this world even noticed him. While now I am definitely not what you would consider "cool" or "popular" I have come to accept myself more, and live a life that I am choosing to build. Overall, I would highly recommend this song to people especially if you are a fan of electro-pop music.

Of Slashed Tires and the SNES

Hi!!! everybody. I hope everyone's weekend went well. Mine was not so great.... As you may have noticed I did not post last Friday. That was because I had a rough morning that day. I woke up to head to work and I discovered that my tires had apparently been slashed. This made me have to take the bus and be late for work. This unfortunately caused a chain reaction which put me behind on projects I had been working on which made me unable to find time to make my Friday post and I apologize for that. I have no idea who or why anyone slashed my tires, I'm assuming it was a bunch of teenage rapscallions with nothing more productive to do. Whatever.... I was able to get a tires to replace the ones that were slashed from a friend at a discount so it did not really set me back all that much.

One thing I would like to note that I learned from this event is that I am a lot more resourceful than I thought. When we are truly faced with a hard situation we tend to rise to the occasion and perform at a very capable level. So I guess what I'm trying to say is not to share yourself short we are capable of great things.

One thing that happened today is that Nintendo announced that it was going to be releasing a Mini SNES with 20 games....May the odds be ever in our favor. I say this because last time they released a Mini NES they stopped selling them when they ran out and then discontinued them. Leaving many hopeful customers without a much desired Mini NES couple. I believe that now you can buy a Mini NES online for about 300$. The inflated price is due to freaking scalpers who bought a ton of the consoles and waited until they were in demand so they could sell them to others. Nintendo is claiming that they will create more Mini SNES this time around so I'm slightly hopeful this wont turn into another fiasco cause I will punch someone in order to play Super Mario RPG.

Hiking in Western Colorado

Hi there Everybody! How is everyone today? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was fantastic I went hiking in Glenwood Springs in Western Colorado.

The name of the trail I hiked is called Hadley Gulch and it is a 14 mile round-trip hike. It is a rocky canyon trail located 12 miles west of Glenwood Springs and the hike leads you deep and high into the forest and mountains. It was quite a fun excursion and I saw a lot of people on the trail. The trail is dog friendly (as well as horse friendly if you happen to have a horse). The trail goes through oak brush, pinion and juniper growth. It is also a good place to see some wildlife provided your there during the dusk or dawn hours. One thing I also noticed was that the trail also had a lot of rock climbers on it as well. This was probably because the canyon walls had good rock climbing spots. While I may not be a climber myself I can see that everyone was having fun and it made me want to try rock climbing one of these days (I would probably have to gain more upper arm strength though). All in all this was a very fun trip and if you happen to be in the are I would recommend you give it a looksy. I have included some photographs so you guys can see what the hike and the area looked like.

The Hippie's game pick: Fire Emblem Shadows of Valentia

Hiya! Salutations everybody I hope your week has been excellent. Mine has been pretty good it was a lot more calm work-wise so I was able to get more personal stuff done. I've been training for a marathon I'm undertaking in July so that has been fun. Today I want to highlight a Video-game that I recently got which I believe is awesome. The game I would like to highlight is Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia.

This game is a remake of the second Fire Emblem game. It follows the story of two protagonists Alm and Celica and their quests and differing viewpoints of how to save their land. While this game is a remake it is not a simple rehash of its earlier incarnation. It has its own unique and new features to show-off. Besides new characters and story plots, which I will not spoil by going into detail, one new feature this game has is dungeons. Dungeons are new to the Fire Emblem universe and allow you to pilot your character and explore a specific area like an adventure game instead of the turn based strategy game-play Fire Emblem is known for. I believe they did a good job with this feature as they introduced it lightly and just enough so that we could experience it, but not so much it would change the fire emblem we know and love. Dungeons also help grind experience for your units so you will be better equipped to fight future battles.

In this fire emblem game they also bring back casual mode. As any Fire Emblem fan will know regular mode is where you play the game and if one of your units die in a battle then they are permanently dead for the rest of the game. Causal mode makes it so that if a character dies in a battle you can still use that character once the battle is over they didn't "die" they just retreated. It's pretty much an easy mode for Fire Emblem games. Now many Fire Emblem purists will tell you that you have to play on regular mode in order to get the full experience and really perfect your strategy in order to not kill characters. However, I believe that if your not a great gamer or if your just getting into Fire Emblem type games then it's okay to play casual mode as long as you have fun. Later on if you want to experience a harder challenge then try out regular mode (trust me it does make your choices life and death).

Monday Funday

Hiya there everybody! I trust everyone had a good weekend. Mine was amazing.  On Saturday I was in Snowmass, Colorado for the annual Snowmass Rendezvous Craft Beer Festival. It is an event in Snowmass in which local Colorado craft brewery come and give people samples of their beers. There is also a free concert at the foot of the mountain after you've had your fill of beer. It's a lot of fun and everyone gets nice and drunk.

I had a great time and enjoyed all the fine selection of craft beers. I really enjoyed the Golden City Brewery as I felt it's beer had a very full robust flavor which I personally prefer as I find it delicious. I also enjoyed the live band at the base of the mountain, because by the time the show started I was ready to sit down and just take it easy. What can I say? I'm a bit of a lightweight. Afterwards, I got on the bus back to town to get some Vietnamese food as I was feeling kind of tipsy. Don't Drink and Drive kids! Plus parking was an absolute clusterf**k. If you are ever in the area make sure to check if there are any events as they usually end up being a lot of fun! And make sure to check out the local Aspen Brewery for some good beer and fun atmosphere.

The Hippie's Friday Spotlight

Hey there! How is everybody? I hope everybody's weekend was fun. Mine was actually kind of hectic as I was running around a lot at work. However, it was still good cause I was able to be productive and get some important tasks done. This Friday I want to talk to you about a cartoon show and a toy series. Today I want to talk to you about the TV show Ninjago.

This show is fantastic in my opinion. It's funny, adventurous, and sometimes has some serious heartfelt moments. Plus it involves Legos and the Lego universe which is a big plus factor for me. This show involves five ninjas who must learn to use their powers and how to work as a team in order to fight bad guys such as Skeleton Warriors and Serpent People. I really like this show and I am happy that they renewed it for another season. I know some people might say that the show is starting to drag a little and they should just finish it before it becomes unwatchable. However, I think its still got at least two more good seasons left in its running, besides I feel the new season is still ok. One great thing about Lego shows is the fact that they also make a variety of accompanying toys to play with. One such toy that I would like to put the spotlight on is The Golden Dragon set number 70503.

This set is awesome as it includes a Lego dragon that fires a round projectile and it also includes some enemies to fight. Plus its freaking gold...How could you not like that? One of the great things about Lego toys is that they let your imagination run wild and you could play with this set with other non-story sets and make up your own amazing story. If the Lego Movie taught us anything, other than Lego Batman is awesome, is that we should let our imaginations run free and have fun creating amazing creations. Remember every idea sounds stupid until someone does it and it turns out to be awesome. If people don't criticize your idea it means it was not that revolutionary not that creative of an idea.

Monday Ramblings

Hi there everybody and Happy Monday! It's me the 7 Year Old Hippie. I hope everybody's weekend was enjoyable. Mine was fantastic. On Saturday I went Rafting for a little bit and then ate at Taco Bell. Rafting was  a lot of fun I ended up falling into the river once but no harm done as I was wearing my helmet and didn't bash into any rocks. Its always good to do things with other people that way they can save your skin when you slip up.

While I was eating at Taco Bell one thing that came to mind and now I got to ask is....What is up with all of these fast food restaurants partnering up with chip companies to come up with new product ideas. We got Taco Bell and Doritos with the Doritos Taco. Now we have Burger King and Cheetos to come up with the mac and cheese Cheetos. Where does it stop? Is McDonald's gonna partner up with Lays Potato chips to create a  Potato Chip Burger. Not that I'm complaining most of the ideas have actually been good so as long as things keep being good well continue to see more strange and interesting partnerships.

One other thing I would like to note is the app game Magikarp Jump. Its this new phone game by Pokemon in which you must train the  Pokemon Magikarp to jump really high so that he could out jump other Magikarp in contest battles. You train Magikarp by feeding him and playing mini-games with him. This game is simple and a lot of fun. You can also catch a variety different colored Magikarps (even a gold colored one) which is one of the best things about the game in my opinion. One thing I will caution about the game is that your Magikarp can die. For example, it can be killed by a Voltorb pretending to be a poke-ball or some asshole Pidgeotto swooping in to catch it while it is jumping.  Also your Magikarp can be forcefully released into the wild if you evolve it into a Gyarados ( I won't spoil the surprise and tell you how to do it but it is possible). Overall I definitely recommend this game if you want to play around with a small and simple game.

                        Image result for magikarp Jump

I hope you all have a wonderful week and if you're struggling with something my advice is to just forget who you're supposed to be and let go of all the fears and doubts.

Wonder Woman Review

Hi there everybody! I am the 7 year old hippie and I am back with another blog post. I hope you enjoyed my last one shining a spotlight on the show The Loud House. I am back and I would like to do a review on the movie Wonder Woman. I watched this movie Today as I love superhero movies. I will now review this movie without giving away any spoilers for the people who have not seen the movie.

I loved this movie. It was so refreshing to see DC pick up its game on the movie department. Its last movie Batman vs Superman was kind of disappointing and Man of Steel wasn't as good as it could have been.  Wonder Woman did an amazing job though. The actress Gal Gadot did an amazing job playing Wonder Woman. She did a much better job playing Wonder Woman than Ben Affleck did playing Batman. The plot was very interesting and I felt it worked well with the Wonder Woman character.

I hope that DC continues the example set in this movie and do a good job in their future movies with their future characters. I highly encourage this movie to any superhero fans and even if you're not a full superhero movie fan its still a good movie to see unless you're completely against the idea of superhero movies. I give this movie two thumbs way up! Finally my apologies to Ben Affleck for criticizing him for his acting in Batman vs Superman, he was a better Batman than George Clooney.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and hope you found my review useful. As always if you want to hear more from me please hit the subscribe by email button or follow me on twitter for blog and personal updates.

TV Spotlight on The Loud House

Hi there everybody its a me Mario....JK its just me the 7 Year Old Hippie. How has everyone been? I've been doing well myself. I hope you all enjoyed my previous post on fidget spinners, I would like to first wish you all a Happy Memorial Day. I spent most of the day running around outside, and I finished the day off with a burger cookout.

In today's blog post I wanted to do a TV show spotlight on a cartoon currently on Nickelodeon, The Loud House.

I have genuinely enjoyed this show. I feel like it captures an essence so often missing from newer kid's cartoons. Don't take me the wrong way I am not one of those people who think that all newer cartoons are bad, I enjoy many modern cartoons such as Teen Titans Go and We Bare Bears but every once in a while a cartoon comes along that I feel not only entertains modern audiences but also has contains something else that is special like Adventure Time.

For people who are not aware The Loud House airs on Nickelodeon and tells the story of the main character Lincoln Loud and his daily adventures with his family. His family consists of 5 older sisters and 5 younger sisters and as you can imagine with that many family members things can become very hectic. Lincoln the main character is a bit of a geek and enjoys things like comic books and video-games. I like this because I identify with this as I was the same way as a child and I continue to be the same way. Throughout the show he has daily adventures and learns things about himself and his family. Its a nice show and I find it entertaining.

I enjoy this show because as I said its entertaining and I feel it definitely has some special charm. I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys cartoons like I do and even people who are trying to find quality kids shows to watch.

As always I hope you enjoyed the blog post and don't forget to subscribe to my blog if you want to hear more updates from me; or follow me on twitter to hear from me on a regular basis. Have a wonderful day!

Round and Round the Fidget Spinners Go!

Hi there everybody how are you today! Welcome to the first official blog post of A 7 Year Old Hippie. Today we are going to be discussing Fidget Spinners. I trust most of you know what a fidget spinner is, but for those who don't I am going to give you a quick run down. Fidget Spinners are these new toys in which kids spin on their fingers and do tricks with them....they're pretty much the yo-yo's of the current era.

Now there has been a lot of buzz on these toys. Some people like them and some people don't. I will be addressing the latter group first. To those people who seem to think its a stupid fad...I hate to break this to you but everything is. Seriously these are just the Yo-Yo's of today's generation. You might be saying "But I don't get it!" and I'm here to tell you that is kind of the point. You're an adult you're supposed to not understand kid things and go and do whatever it is adults are supposed to do...Taxes I guess? I understand them because I am a forever kid. I am not saying you have to become like me I am simply saying if you complain too much you sound weird.

Anyway, that was my two cents on that matter. Second, for the people who say that this is a great toy and it will help children with ADHD....don't be silly. While I can appreciate that you have good intentions I must regretfully inform you that things are not that simple. ADHD is a complicated characteristic and it cannot be fixed or swept under the rug with quick fixes (regardless of how much wishful thinking is involved). That being said they are still fun so if your child wants one let them get one. I have one myself and I can attest to the fact that they are quite entertaining. However, if your child goes to a school in which teachers have banned them then I recommend you don't let them go to school with them lest they get confiscated. I personally don't agree with the teachers who have banned them but hey me disagreeing with teachers is nothing new. However, they still enforce the "rules" at school and unfortunately children must follow.

Well I hope you appreciated my opinion on the topic. The main takeaway is that fidget spinners are fun and you shouldn't knock people for liking them. If you are buying one for your child with ADHD don't expect magic. And if you're like me and enjoy them then I recommend you watch YouTube videos on how to do the tricks...the hand toss seems especially fun.

Set the Sails for New Horizons!

Avast ye scallywags prepare to set sail for new horizons!......JK

Unfortunately I am not a pirate, I do wish I was one though, the promise of adventure is definitely enough to reel me in. My name is Eric but you can all call me the 7 year old Hippie. If you're wondering why I chose that moniker its because its the best description I have for myself. I have the emotional and mental maturity of a hyperactive seven year old. Many people have called me a sugar coated optimists but I feel I'm more optimistic than that.

The best description I have for what I do is: Awkward Professional Vagabond. If that doesn't make sense to you don't worry....It doesn't make sense to me either. I enjoy photography, writing, adventure, gaming, toys, and travel. I am a forever kid and I plan on staying that way.

The best description I have for this new blog is: A fun slice of life blog. It will be about a vast array of topics that I hope you will all enjoy. I will discuss these events through my uniquely childish point of view.  I hope it is enjoyable and as time goes on things get even better. Now then.....

And with those opening words lets shove off towards the next adventure!
